TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF LUNG DONATION IN LUNG TRANSPLANTATION

Abstract

Lung transplantation is one of the most complex surgical procedures in thoracic surgery, specifically indicated for a select group of patients. Its success depends not only on the appropriate selection of recipients, surgical aspects, and postoperative care, but especially on the correct selection of the donor. The selection and procurement of lungs as the initial step in the transplantation process plays a fundamental prognostic role in subsequent outcomes. A thorough understanding of the related scientific and technical aspects is necessary, mainly because much of the data used still depends on the experience of the transplant and procurement teams.
